Why get an HDTV? Getting a new TV is quite a decision. This guide will help you through the various stages of getting an HDTV, and why you should get one.

Why Get One?
HDTV is the newest and best form of TV broadcasts. Surprisingly, we’ve been using our analog NTSC television format for a little bit over 50 years now! It’s time for a change, and the FCC agrees. Here in Canada, the switch-over will be in 2011. What’s this change-over I’m talking about? Well, in a couple of years, you won’t be able to get analog television broadcasts!The reason that they are pressuring this is because they want everyone to switch over and get an HDTV!What appeals to many people is that they can get free television programming with their old antennas. Now, think, does using an antenna not sound that great? Well, yeah sure, because when you used your old antenna oh so long ago, the picture was a bit fuzzy, huh? Right now you might be wondering if the picture on that HDTV that you paid dearly for will actually be the real thing. Well, fortunately, yes, it will not have ghosting, fuzzyness, or bad picture, but you’ll be watching full HDTV, without paying anything! Go get an HDTV!

    Sweet post! We recently got a 42 inch LCD 1080p HDTV. Another thing you should post to people is to get LCD HDTV’s with 1080p because 1080p is true HD. Some HDTVs have 780p which isnt full, true HD. Also, LCD screens are better than plasma so take that into account too.

    Yes, 1080p IS true HD. 1080p means that it has 1080 progessive-scanned lines of information on the screen. That doesn’t mean that 720p (progressive scanned) is not true HD, nor does it even mean that 1080i (interlaced scanning) is not true HD. Interlaced scanning can result in a choppier picture, but 1080i has a higher resolution than 720p. LCD screens aren’t ALWAYS better than plasma, it’s just that Plasma has a bit of a burn-in issue, which means that if you leave it on too long then the picture gets ingraved into the screen, which is NOT a good thing. Plasma actually has a quality and size advantage to LCD. Thanks for your comment.

    Okay now Connor, 1080p is true HD. My camcorder records in 720p and that isn’t tru High Def.

    Keep in mind, Craig, though, that while 1080p is really great and all that, 780p is really QUITE the advantage to standard-definition 480i (interlaced – THAT´S VERY low res!), so 780p is almost twice the resolution, giving it a truly realistic feel.
