MSN Messenger Now Playing Plugin for Foobar2000 v1.1

September 26th, 2010 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | 8 Comments | Filed in Apps, Music

After much searching, this is a plugin that works with MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger, but also works with the latest version of Foobar2000 (v1.1 at the time of writing)!  None of the other plugins I tested would work because they were out of date.

Enjoy!  Let me know it works for you!

Blackra1n: The 30-second jailbreak!

September 2nd, 2010 by Severin Kempf | 1 Comment | Filed in Music, Tech

OK, in my last jailbreak article I taught you how to use redsn0w to jailbreak your iPod Touch or iPhone.

In this article I will be showing you a whole new way to jailbreak your iDevice… OK here are some things you need to do:

  • Update iTunes to it’s latest version.
  • Update your device to firmware 3.1.2
  • WARNING: DO NOT, I REPEAT NOT UPGRADE TO FIRMWARE 3.1.3 IT IS A FIRMWARE THAT DOES NOTHING AND STOPS BLACKRA1N FROM WORKING.
  • Download Blackra1n from here either for MS Windows or Mac OS sorry – Linux not supported.

and your ready to jailbreak.

  1. Open iTunes and make sure your devices firmware is 3.1.2 not 3.1.3
  2. Quit iTunes and launch blackra1n.
  3. Hit “make it ra1n”
  4. Wait
  5. Your device will reboot.
  6. A window will pop-up asking you to donate if this was the fastest jailbreak you ever had.
  7. On your Device go to the second page and look for the Blackra1n app.
  8. Launch it
  9. From here you can install Cydia, or rock, (I like rock) or blacksn0w to unlock your iPhone (use it with other carriers)
  10. Click uninstall blackrain. NO IT WILL NOT DELETE THE JAILBREAK, JUST THE INSTALL APP.
  11. Now go into rock, create a RockID and download away!

Action potato review for iPod touch

March 6th, 2010 by Calvert Kennedy | 1 Comment | Filed in Apps

Hello. Today mydailytech.com is bringing you a review of the new app – Action Potato by Sunflat Studios.

This app is very addictive and has very simple controls. You simply tap it to make the pan jump up and catch the potato to earn points. It’s it’s very repetitive, but like Sunflat Studio’s best game – Papi jump, it is repetitive but amazing at the same time.

This game can really grow on you – if you’re like me, you may want to add this app to your dock, it really is a keeper!

iPod Touch App – Cube Runner Bonus Level Packs

March 6th, 2010 by Calvert Kennedy | 11 Comments | Filed in Apps, How Tos

If you’d like some extra levels for your Cube Runner iPod Touch game that we recently reviewed you’ve come to the right place!

It’s as simple as going to add new level pack. and typing in one of the URLs found at the bottom of this post.

I am not 100% sure these are working, so if they don’t, blame the forum I got them from – but please leave a comment letting us know whether they did or didn’t work for you! These were tested to work on cube runner one and not two, and it is the first version of cube runner, so it may be outdated.

Reasons why the iPad is Pointless

February 18th, 2010 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | 10 Comments | Filed in Tech

Apple, to great fanfare, unveiled its long-awaited “netbook/tablet/iphone” in January.  The iPad looks simply like a big iPod touch, and even has that little home button at the bottom!

Being what, in reality, is simply just an iPod Touch with a processor that’s more powerful and a bigger screen – I don’t think its worth buying.

Validating the point that the iPad is really just an iPod Touch that isn’t portable and is overpriced, it runs primitive iPod Touch apps!  Now, some may say that this is a great idea, since people can run their iPod apps that they really like which don’t yet have iPad counterparts – but, I believe that if it can run iPod apps, that proves that it uses the same primitive Operating System that the iPod uses, with a few tweaks.

Also, the iPad doesn’t even have multi-tasking capability!  Although, with its ‘powerful’ processor you’d think it would – but it doesn’t.  Hopefully Apple will fix this in the long run with some sort of silly paid-for software upgrade.

I think that the iPad is a dud – and that Apple will greatly  regret not thinking this out more!

Cube Runner iPod Touch Review

February 6th, 2010 by Calvert Kennedy | 1 Comment | Filed in Apps

Cube runner is a very good game that has tons of downloadable levels, and simple controls. The aim is to fly your ship across a terrain littered with Cubes. Use the built-in accelerometer to fly across the terrain by tilting your iPhone left and right. The game plays in Landscape mode. To beat the game, you must avoid the block-like land mines. You have no health bar, so if you get hit, you need to restart.

This game is highly addictive, and whenever I scroll through my apps and see it, I always play it. I highly reccomend this app, and since it’s free GO DOWNLOAD IT.

Also for those of you wondering, yes, it is just like the online flash version of the game but it is much better and the multitude of levels adds to the fun.

Rollercoaster Rush for iPod Touch review

December 25th, 2009 by Calvert Kennedy | No Comments | Filed in Apps

Rollercoaster rush is truly one of the greater games for the iTouch. It has several levels to keep you busy, and many achievements that you can obtain through the game-play.  It also has two versions: a themed christmas version, and a regular version.

The controls vary but are always simple. You either tap or tilt the iPod in the direction you want to go.  Although the graphics are somewhat cartoony, they do the job quite well and add appeal to the game.  This game is great for all ages and runs smoothly during gameplay, except it crashed once during the 3 hour period I tested it for.

The game takes about an hour to beat, and a ton of time to unlock all the acievments for.  This is a great game, and I recommend it for anybody who likes a bit of a challenge, and who also has an iPod touch.  It’s free!  How can you go wrong?

Griffin iClear – Polycarbonate iPod Touch Case

December 3rd, 2009 by Calvert Kennedy | No Comments | Filed in Reviews
Griffin iClear Case

Griffin iClear Case

The Griffin iClear is a great looking, easy to assemble, good protective cover.  It is a clear case, as you probably guessed by the name of the product.  There are two pieces to the hard shell that you put together.

It’s comfortable, thick, protective and pocketable.  In the box there’s a screen dust protector, a wiping cloth, and the case itself.

The case, though a tiny bit bulky, protects everything fully except for the screen (it comes with a dust protector for your screen though).  The case isn’t huge though, so the iPod Touch is still very pocketable, and the case makes your iPod look a bit better in my opinion.

The case isn’t going to come off if you drop it, and it is quite protective (for everything but the screen, as we said).   The case fits snug, leaving no room for the iPod to rattle around, which is one of our favorite features about this case.  Even when the iPod Touch falls screen side down, the raised plastic on the sides  should hit the floor first and protect the screen from harm.

Don’t worry about headphones and chargers being plugged in (unless your jack is super abnormal or has some kind of tumor lol), the case is functionable with all apple brand headphones and chargers and works with the third party ones I tried (Skullcandy, and one pair of Bose).

Downsides:

The case is kind of tricky to take off, because you need a small coin with you to take it off. To take off the case you just simply slide a dime down the space between the two halves of the case, and use it as a lever.

Another few downsides are that the volume control on the side of the itouch is locked away making it unusable when the case is on, and the sleep button is hard to get to, but still useable.

Overall:

The Griffin iClear hard case is a decent case for a very low cost at $6.00 at any local Tiger Direct in Canada, making it a pretty good deal compared to some of the rediculous pricings for other cases.

It’s an amazing case for it’s price point, but it’s drawbacks make it a tad bit annoying sometimes.

A solid 4/5 rating.

Sansa Fuze – The Real Comparison

October 30th, 2009 by Craig McBrine | 2 Comments | Filed in Reviews

iPods seem to be all the rage these days, encapsulating its buyers into a dreamland of a sophistication and self-importance that is solely based on the fact that you are carrying around an expensive Apple product, and anyone who does not own one or dislikes them, is an outcast and should be treated as such. In fact, from 2002 to 2007 Apple sold 100 million iPods. Of course the popularity of the iPod is still increasing, luring people in with the only program it works with, iTunes. I have asked my friends why the decided to get an iPod and they said, “Because of iTunes. iTunes is such a good program with billions of songs and movies and tons of stuff!”

In reality, iPods are very expensive, and iTunes uses major DRM restrictions on everything purchased there so you can only use the songs you buy from them on your iPod and nothing else!  iTunes is really the iPod’s true weakness – the iPod will not sync to any other program and iTunes is really horrible software.  If you want to share a song with a friend, it won’t let you!  Although many think it is illegal, is quite common and really shouldn’t be considered illegal as many people also used to share songs on cassette tapes back in the 80′s. Are they worth all of this extra cash? Is there an alternative?

There are many companies that have tried competing with the iPod, but I think that SanDisk takes the cake. The SanDisk Sansa Fuze is an amazing mp3 player, at a fraction of the price that most iPod Nanos cost. The Sansa Fuze could even be comparable to the iPod Classic. The Fuze has a 1.9 inch viewing screen, it plays videos, music, shows pictures, and it has FM Radio and a Voice Recorder directly built into it! Apple is just barely coming out with iPods that have built in radio.

The Fuze also comes with an expandable microSD card slot! That means you could get an 8gb microSD card, and the 8gb Fuze, and have 16gb in storage space. iPods do not have the option to expand its storage space. Also, the Fuze is not tied down to one program. It works with Windows Media Player, Rhapsody, WinAmp and works with pretty much any program you want! It even plays formats that iPods cannot play like .mp3, .wav, and .wma.

The 4gb Fuze is only $50-$60, and to get an 8gb microSD card is only another $10, and to get an 8gb iPod Nano it is $150. The iPod is more than twice as expensive as the Fuze.

In conclusion, the iPod and the Fuze both have the same features, but the Fuze has just a little bit more, at a fraction of the price. Its sleek look and feel can be compared over the look and feel of the iPods. If you are looking for flexibility, and portability and a low price, take a look at what the Sansa Fuze has to offer. You no longer need to be caught in the web of Apple.

Check out www.amazon.com for these great prices, and free shipping!
