Gmail Phone Call: Call failed due to an error [Code: 3 Remote: true]

October 5th, 2010 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | 27 Comments | Filed in Online

If you get an error on Gmail while attemping to make a free call to an actual phone, that says this:

Call failed due to an error [Code: 3 Remote: true]

That error code (as far as I know), means that the person you are calling is on the phone already, or that Gmail is getting a busy signal while trying to call your buddy!

One of our readers (Wave Cool00) just commented that this error can also happen when trying to chat (audio or video) from the same PC but from different Gmail accounts.  Thanks for the feedback!

If you have something to say to the contrary, let me know in the comments section!

Hilarious Scam I got in the Actual Snail MAIL!

October 1st, 2010 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | 3 Comments | Filed in Offline

We got a wierd letter in the mail from, of all places, Tanzania!

I opened it up to find a typical hilarious scam email.  It’s one thing to recieve spam in your email inbox, but it’s another thing to recieve it in the actual physical snail mail!

And it’s complete with the usual typos and everything (*facepalm*).  You’d expect if they were paying all the money for this postage they’d work on their sales pitch at least a little!

Let’s hope some gullible person doesn’t fall for this crap!

Feed My Inbox – Easy RSS Email Delivery

September 29th, 2009 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | No Comments | Filed in Online

If you’ve ever been on a nice blog that didn’t have an email delivery option, have no fear!  Feed My Inbox is a simple solution to your problem.

It’s super simple!  It’ll automatically email you each new post, just like any email subscription service.

Other helpful tools available on the site include the ability to provide email subscriptions for yourself on your own blog using a form where your visitor enters his/her email, like Feedburner’s email subscription service.

They also have a really neat little javascript link that you put onto your bookmarks toolbar and then can click on any website with a feed and the javascript will prompt you to enter your email and it will automatically find that site’s feed and then deliver new posts to your email.

Check out the two above services on the Feed My Inbox tools page.

Feed My Inbox is an all-around fun and easy to use service that’s quite helpful when you find yourself needing a quick email subscription.

Great news Hotmail users, POP3 email access using programs such as Mozilla Thunderbird and Outlook is now available to Hotmail users in:

United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. If you don’t see your country or region in this list, never fear, we’ll be rolling POP3 out to more parts of the world later this year.

Quote: Windows Live Wire Blog

Here is the POP info for if you live in one of the above countries and you’d like to try it out (Microsoft reports that POP will soon also be available in the United States):

  • POP server: pop3.live.com
  • POP SSL required? Yes
  • User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
  • Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
  • SMTP server: smtp.live.com
  • Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
  • TLS/SSL required? Yes.

Enjoy!
