Zune vs. iPod Part 3

January 30th, 2008 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | View Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Hello again people! Here is the final Part on the Zune vs. iPod debate.

Overall, the Zunes and the iPods are very unique and very fun pieces of technology.
There are some features I like better on the Zune and some features I like better on the iPod!
I like how the Zune has radio, and how it takes WMA and WMV files, and I like how the iPod can have games, and how on iTunes you can buy TV shows and Movies!

So all in all, the choice really is up to the buyer. iPods are super common, Zunes not so common.
I would say give Zunes a chance and just try out there features. Keep an open mind. But also I would say, iPods are just awesome!

There are different types of people and some will turn to the iPod, and some will turn to the Zune. Some features I forgot to mention for the Zune, is that you can also have a personalized background on the Zune. I thought this was interesting.

But people, I have displayed the options here, now its your turn! You choose what you want, and you be happy with it!
Both are very sleek and cool!

Computers need to be standardized

January 30th, 2008 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | View Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

I was just thinking to myself and wondering whether this really irritates people.  I totally hate seperate accounts for everything, and using the ‘all purpose’ website – for example – Yahoo!, Live, AOL and other websites are all are trying to do EVERYTHING for their users.  We really need a standard, or people really need to make their websites more specific! Right now, I have to use a whole bunch of accounts all over the place in order to do everything I want on the internet.  Also, I need to say that I don’t like using separate applications for stuff like
media playing and things.  Either apple should start supporting WMP (please don’t do this apple!) or (this is better) Apple should let all the other companies use iTunes for their MP3 Players.  If Apple did that, then their sales would go up, because people who don’t have iPods really can’t use iTunes to its fullest extent.  I think iTunes is the best media player ever (except for video), and WMP is simply the ugliest (M$ needs to make the interface color lighter).  There should be one format for video – maybe everyone should be forced into open-source codecs like XviD and then XviD could just have an updater to automatically update the codec whenever a newer, more lossless version comes out.  This really is what needs to happen to make the computer a totally accessable platform that everyone in this world can use.  Everyone seems to be waiting for something like Linux.  Linux will, truly, eventually become the best operating system ever, because of things like the Add/Remove programs box in Ubuntu linux.  Since everything’s free in linux, installing new games, programs, tools, features, and themes is a snap.  Free really seems to be the way of the future, since every game you can get your hands
onto is pirated somewhere out there on the internet.  Here’s an example of how easy it is to download a new program in Ubuntu Linux:

See how easy it is?  Everyone’s gunna have linux in a few years.
No more money spent on computers!

Zune vs. iPod Part 2 1/2

January 29th, 2008 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | View Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Hello again!
I thought that it would be neat, if before I write Part 3 of the Zune vs. iPod debate, that I could do a poll, to see so far what people are deciding on. So go ahead, and on this blog post, post through the comment system, and tell me (and Connor) what you think.

Do you like Zunes or iPods better?
You can even leave your reasons for liking one or the other. I would appreciate that a lot.

The poll is available in the sidebar ————————————>

Zune vs. iPod Part 2

January 29th, 2008 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | View Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Okay, here is Part 2. Part 2 will consist of the features of iPods. (I Will close with Part 3 comapring and contrasting the Zune and iPod.)

Features of iPod:

  • iPod uses CoverFlow technology, so you can browse through your music by album cover.
  • All metal enclosure.
  • Easy to use/comfortable interface.
  • iPod features iPod Touch, which is a pretty neat device.
  • (I could not find much on iPods, unlike the Zunes. Most of these sites are just saying that the iPods are really cool and sleek, which isn’t much technical detail to help you decide between a Zune and an iPod.)
  • iPod Touch features actual web browsing, and it also features the iTunes music store, so you can buy and listen to your songs on the go.
  • iPod has the famous Click Wheel, so you can circle your thumb around and click exactly what you want.
  • The iPod plays AAC files, MP3, MPEG-4, and many other files like that. But it doesn’t play WMA or WMV files, which I find to be a real let-down, because most of my files are in that file type.
  • The iTunes store offers actual TV shows and movies that you can buy, and put them directly on your iPod!
  • iPods are at a relatively affordable price.

That’s all I have for iPods at the moment. More features of both Zunes and iPods will be discussed in my Part 3!!

Thanks and Enjoy!

Zune vs. iPod

January 29th, 2008 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | View Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Okay people,
there has been a lot of controversy over iPod and the new Microsoft Zunes.
Most people automatically say that the Zunes are terrible, because they are made by Microsoft. Well I am here today to discuss to you the ups and downs to iPods, and Zunes.

I have had first hand experience with both Zunes, and iPods. First I will discuss the Zunes. Also, just because the Zunes are made by Microsoft don’t think they automatically are terrible.

Zunes:

  • Cool, Slimming design
  • Crisp large size screen
  • Scratch Resistant Glass
  • A very fun and easy to use scroll pad (Applies only for 4gb, 8gb, and 80gb Zunes)(That pad is soooooooooooooo fun)
  • Zunes are usually cheaper than iPods (Some might argue that this is because Microsoft can’t sell as many as Apple, but this is still up for debate.)
  • Zunes offer wireless sharing so you and your friends (who own Zunes) can send eachother pics, videos, and music, free! Directly on the Zune!
  • Zunes are compatible with .wma files and things like that, which iPods do not really like.
  • Some of the acceptable formats for Zunes are: AAC, MP3, WMA, JPEG, WMV, h.264, and MPEG-4
  • The Zunes have a built in, easy rechargeable battery. They charge when you plug them into your computer, or into the Zune AC Adapter (Sold Seperately from the actual Zune.) Also, you can plug your Zune into your computer and watch and listen to your files on it while it is charging.
  • Putting files (and taking them off) of your Zune is really easy and very, very fast. I was actually pretty surprised at how fast the transfer was. I put a 17 MB file on my Zune and it took a little less than 30 seconds. (17 MB is a lot of space for 1 song.)
  • The Zunes can have up to 24 hours (with the wireless off. Around 20 with it on.) of music playback! (Wireless on would be radio playback.) Up to 4 or 5 hours of picture and video playback too!
  • Also, the Zunes have RADIO on them!! You can sit back and listen to your favorite radio stations. You can preset your favorite radio stations and listen to them with ease! Also for some stations it actually shows you the name and band of the song that is playing, and even more info!
  • For a full charge (If you have used up all the juice.) It takes only 2 hours for your Zune to have all its battery back!

That’s all I can think for Zunes. I’ll have another post for iPods soon.

If I think of anything else about Zunes i’ll also post that.

Enjoy!

Virtual PC – Very Interesting Piece of Software

January 23rd, 2008 by Connor McBrine-Ellis | View Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

If you are very interested in installing multiple operating systems on your computer, but you don’t want to dual-boot, and risk losing all your files and folders, then try this. It is a free piece of software called Virtual PC by Microsoft. It emulates a computer, and you can install almost any OS you can find on it, and if you have something that you want to use but won’t work on Vista, then you could install XP, 98, 3.1 or DOS in order to let it run. If that software’s a game or requires a lot of heavy processor usage, then maybe you should get a computer with that OS instead of using this. It also works with Linux, but I have Windows Vista Home Premium, and it works perfectly! I will post photos of it soon. It’s free on XP and vista. If when you start it for the first time, and it says it won’t run on the OS, then check ‘don’t show this message again’.
